The new Rules were accepted by ballot and came into force after the OU branch of UCU Annual General Meeting on 29 November 2007. An amendment was made to the Branch rules at the Branch Meeting in September 2017.

The UCU National Fighting Fund normally supports members of UCU during disputes where substantial pay is deducted for taking part in industrial action. Where funding is made available to members, this is normally only after the third full working day of industrial action and lost pay.
