Pickets, rallies and events

Pickets, rallies, and events: in-person and online

To ensure that our action has maximum impact, we need to make ourselves visible and our voices heard.

Showing our strength on an in-person picket line during each day of the strike is one of the best things we can do to demonstrate that we’re serious and committed to this dispute. The more people we can get on our picket lines locally and nationally, the bigger the impact and the greater the chance of winning our campaign.

Remember, the longer the picket line, the shorter the strike.

There will be in-person pickets at the OU Offices in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester, Milton Keynes and Nottingham on the mornings of each of the strike days: Thursday 24th November, Friday 25th November, and Wednesday 30th November.  In addition to this, there will be a national rally in London at 1pm at Kings Cross train station, where we will meet up with colleagues from all around the country to speak out in unison. We will be meeting at 12noon. If you’d like to attend, please email ucu@open.ac.uk

The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes MK7 6AA - 3 days of picket lines, 24, 25 and 30 November 7.30am - 9.30am

While we weren’t able to organise a picket line at the OU’s Belfast office, we encourage our Belfast colleagues to attend the Queen’s University Belfast picket line. UCU branch picket lines will be showing on the Strike map website, you can enter your postcode and find out where the nearest picket lines will be taking place.

For more information about the pickets, see the frequently asked questions page (page to be added). If you haven’t attended a picket before, that page will also tell you what to expect. You’ll have a very warm welcome!
If you have a long or expensive trip, you could claim reasonable expenses from the branch. See our hardship fund page for more information.
