No compulsory redundancies petition

The University is currently proposing to issue Compulsory Redundancy notices to staff in Academic Services, despite substantially above-target student enrolment for the 2025-2026 academic year.

This is due to follow the conclusion of the Academic Services, TACQ (Tuition, assessment, curriculum and quality) organisational design consultation on 26 January. If the University leadership is willing to use compulsory redundancy once, they‘ll  use it again. It is therefore essential that the staff body shows its opposition.

UCU has launched a petition, accessed at https://forms.office.com/e/Npa1E1WYML. We are asking all members of staff, whether or not they are UCU members, to sign.

Please share the petition across OU forums and email lists where you can.

Issuing Compulsory Redundancy notices damages staff and student trust in the stability of the OU, so is likely to cost more than it saves. Student numbers are up. There is no justification for this vicious move; please sign the petition.
