The Open University branch of the University and College Union
The government recently passed the Strike (Minimum Service Levels) Act and are currently consulting on applying these MSLs to schools, further education and universities. This of course would have a severely detrimental impact on our members’ right to strike and as such we are currently formulating a coordinated campaigning response for all levels of the union to fight back.
Alongside this the TUC is also coordinating a broader movement-wide response, kicking off with a march and rally in Cheltenham on 27 January, to coincide with a PCS rally commemorating the campaign for trade union recognition at GCHQ. The UCU general secretary will be speaking, and we are keen to get as many members as possible along.
Our UCU Eastern and Home Counties Regional office are organising a coach if there are enough members from our region who want to go to the march and rally, please email ucu@open.ac.uk if you are interested.
