The Open University branch of the University and College Union
We were pleased to be able to have a joint Unions stand at the OU's Charter day on 8th May - we shared the stand with the Open University branch of UNISON and the Open University Chapel of the National Union of Journalists.
There are photos on our Facebook page at this address: www.facebook.com/oubucu.
Trade Unions have been part of the OU Community since the beginning in 1969, the OU will be celebrating its 50th birthday in 2019.
The OU says: "Every member of staff has a statutory right to be a member of any independent trade union and to take part in its activities at the appropriate time. In the interests of effective bargaining the University recognises one main union as the appropriate body to represent the interests of each category of staff:
The University and College Union (UCU) is recognised as the appropriate body for negotiating upon terms and conditions of employment for academic, academic-related, research and Associate Lecturer staff.
UNISON is recognised as the appropriate body to represent the interests of Support staff.
The National Union of Journalists is recognised as the appropriate body to represent the interests of its members (other than T&Cs for which UCU is recognised).
Unite is recognised as the appropriate body to represent the interests of staff on technical terms and conditions of service, craftsmen/craftswomen in the Estates division and printing staff."
