UCU lays ground for its first ever strike ballot against Labour
Delegates at the University and College Union's (UCU) annual Congress have overwhelmingly voted to prepare for an industrial dispute with the Secretary of State for Education over university funding, the first step towards a potential strike ballot, announced UCU on Monday 26 May 2025.
UCU delegates passed the motion to enter into dispute from the Congress hall in Liverpool on Sunday 25 May. [HE14 Congress motion]. The proposed dispute would be over the funding issues successive governments have created that have led to the current financial crisis.
