Shivanti Lowton - Equality Officer

Shivanti has worked at the Open University since 2021. She is currently an Associate Lecturer in Education. She has taught in both statutory and higher education institutions and has been an active trade union member since 1996. She is a UCU AL Rep, caseworker and one of the Equality Officers (role share) for the branch.

Shivanti also sits on the UCU Black Member’s Standing Committee (Nov 2024 - Nov 2026) and UCU's Disabled Members' Standing Committee (Nov 2025 - Nov 2027). Shivanti is the UCU representative on the TUC Race Relations Committee (April 2024 - April 2026).

Shivanti is qualified as a Union Learn rep (November 2025) after completing the TUC's Union Learn training.
